North vs South Korea

Wanna hear something cool? Civic activists in South Korea attached anti-Kim Jong pamphlets to about 100,000 balloons and sent them across the border, and the North threaten to reduce the South to rubble. With our luck, we'll be sending troops to fight the north and maybe even China by the time the Iraq war is over. Amazingly, the north and south have been at war for over 50 years, and it's not over religion. I do find it really strange, though, that they've had an armistice for such a long time, and that they haven't just made peace or something. Face it, the generation that faught the war at first has pretty much died off, so what's keeping these people at each other's throats? Can't they just friggin' accept their differences, make peace, and focus on helping their people rather than always keeping the military on high alert? If we refuse to forget the past and accept our differences, then tribal revenge will always cause war in Africa, religion will always tear apart the Middle East, and the north and south, and even Taiwan/Tibet and China will always keep their guns pointed at each other and refuse to make peace. I know it's a good idea to know your history so you don't repeat it, but these countries are using their history as an excuse for warfare and hostility. It almost defies reason that this far into our history, race, religion and other stuff continue to be reasons for warfare, and there are billions who refuse to accept the fact that people believe and live differently from them.

This is why there can never truly be world peace. I know that sounds absolutely pessimistic in the worst possible way, but it is the truth. War is as inevitable as the sun rising. War will never end because differences and scarcity exist. Because our world has money and everyone is out to make a buck, scarcity will always exist. Because we are so eager to divide ourselves into races of people and because religion and government exists differences will always exist. I use always because the chances of successfully removing money, religion, government are less than 1%...far less. Religion is the cause of the most major wars in human history thanks mostly to the few who take the stories far beyond the main purpose of religion: to provide hope, to provide answers to the unknown, to provide the basic concepts of right and wrong. Religion, however, needs to stay. Unless, however, all religious nuts can come to accept all other religions or every religion in the world becomes one. Government will always exist because, like all creatures of this earth, we need leaders to help guide us. Unfortunately leaders tend to forget about the "help guide us" part and tend to just go for the "I'm in charge do as I say" route, couple that with differing points of view on how to guide the people and run a nation and you have differences in beliefs again. History, unfortunately, shows no signs of people ever ending their disputes with one another as people, as you've said, will use history as a reason to continue hatred. It sucks, but its also truth...unless I'm seriously missing something here.

I believe a joint union of government and religion can work: Communism/Socialism and Buddhism. Communism where the system means working not for oneself but for society as a whole and Buddhism to preach modesty and self satisfaction.

Sounds much better than the system we have now. People can say "why change the system it works great" all they want but in reality it has caused people to care more about little pieces of worthless paper more than human beings. And I say worthless because the value associated with that paper was created by human beings back when it was still backed by gold, again a resource given value by human beings due to its scarcity...all leading back to scarcity.
I wouldn't necessarily say society should go to communism,at least not immediately, if only because people won't work as hard as they could. Most will go with the usual excuse of "why should I work harder and make the same amount of money as the slacker." People need to be "reprogrammed," so to say. Most have been taught, or programmed, to believe that you need to get a reward for your work. This is simply not true. People can come to realize that what they can accomplish will always outweigh any amount of money made from doing that work. The feeling of accomplishment, which most feel whenever they make a major scientific, medical, historical, whatever breakthrough will always beat out the feeling of getting a piece of paper with a number on it. The sooner people realize this, the better of they'll be.
As for a religious belief, I agree with you on Buddhism. That would be a great religion for the world to follow.
