DC has no balls

So, the democrats and republicans are at it again, this time over expanding offshore drilling. Oil companies want the fed to give up more land for drilling, since it'd be closer to shore, cheaper, and it would take less time to get production rolling. The democrats don't want them to, saying that they're leaving a crap load of acres untapped and won't get more til they use what they got. Obviously, opening up land that's easier to pump on would lower gas costs somewhat, and the only perceivable reason to say no is if they're concerned about harm to the environment, which gets me to my main point.

In Alaska and offshore, I think we should pump what we've got. Alaska is massive, and bitching that animals will be displaced shows a conflict on interest. On one hand, working families who are struggling as we near recession are having trouble paying all the bills, paying for education (if their kids go to college at all), and just generally surviving. Also, so far this year, about 480,000 jobs have been cut. Pumping oil out of Alaska and offshore 'will hurt the animals', but if it'll help people in our economy, I say screw the fucking animals. Putting the welfare of elk, moose, and fish above the well being of Americans is just the kind of bullshit to expect from a blue congress. They would rather allow OPEC to continue to hold us by the balls and let our president beg countries like Saudi Arabia for mercy than to grow balls themselves and make the hard decision to drill. Letting our nation degrade itself to groveling for the king of S.A. and burning our own corn while food prices soar is completely ignorant.

Our government, Bush included, has not had the American people in mind when carrying out their agendas. I don't think we invaded Iraq for the oil, but Bush did it for himself. For all of the money this war has cost this country, there's no way it was for profit. If anything, Bush did it to do a combination of profiting oil companies (not the American people at the pump), finishing out what his dad started, or finding imaginary WMDs. The huge of amount of money the government spends on this war could be used at home to alleviate our problems, not putting up with militants who don't want a democracy. I'm willing to bet, either Iraq will become an 'Islamic democracy', with Sharia law oppressing everyone but men, or another Zimbabwe, with voters being intimidated and the opposition being killed. Nothing good will come of changing the power system in Iraq, and we've wasted a lot of money and lives doing it.

So, I kind of went off topic there, but our government needs a change of mentality. I don't think it's our job to police the world, making up reasons to overthrow dictators in the middle east. Our troops should be fighting to keep our freedom safe, and unless something like an invasion happens (like Kuwait) we should mind our own business. Considering the massive resistance to change in Iraq, and the likely corruption that will follow, I say why the hell bother. The very nature of Islam and Sharia law contradicts the principles and freedoms of democracy, and Iraq will likely head down the same path as Zimbabwe. If the US has its own trouble keeping power straight (overpowered judiciary, one judge has the power to change abortion, gay marriage, etc), those countries don't have a chance. The American people are in a lose-lose situation with our current politicians; if we're not pouring our money into the war, we're pouring it into the hands of OPEC and the like, while we have the power to save ourselves but refuse to do so for the sake of animals. Our economy is not doing good, but it's no mystery why. Holding our breath under high oil prices and waging a costly war for the sake of people who will squander their freedom is going to drag the dollar to new depths, and I can just hope it stops falling soon.

All I have to say is holy fucking hell dude. That sounds like something I'd say in those Why the World Sucks blogs i used to do hahahahaha. I mean christ I don't care that the rules for this say limit profanity/swearing and whatnot because god damn man that made me laugh so hard. Good job...although I think this would've been better suited in the government spending section, but whatever man it works.

Although, I will add a few things here that may correct some of your statements. First, I'd like to add that theres so many freaking organizations out there that won't hesitate for a second to sue the crap out of government officials. Yes, the Dems are also "pro-animal rights," whatever that means considering animals have no sense of right, wrong, good, evil, whatever, but I should also say that not every Dem is smoking something harsh that makes them want to give animals rights (there are those debating whether or not to give apes rights). While I'm not saying obliterate the animals as that would totally screw up our ecosystem, I am for domestic drilling. If it "displaces" animals, so what. They'll come back once the construction is complete. And for anyone who disagrees, taking out an acre of land for a building that monitors a pipeline isn't going to wipe out a species, nor will a long, house-wide pipe. Animals adapt to change, otherwise they'd all be extinct.

Next, I completely agree that our country needs to quit kneeling to the Middle East for this "black gold." Yes, I used a very old term, but that's basically what it is once again. Why are we afraid of these extremists? Whatever happened to us saying we were going to wipe out terrorism and whatnot, but then we do everything imaginable to stop them from so much as threatening us? I know that not every Muslim is a terrorist, that's common sense, but I mean come on. Why censor out anything remotely offensive, give in to these ridiculous oil prices (for our country...not counting Europe in this at all because they have it far worse), and "detain" extremists rather than just rid of them? I know I got a bit off-topic there but really what is the point in wasting so much money on other countries that clearly don't want us there. Why don't we take all those billions wasted in a pointless war and put it into medical care and education where it belongs? Boosting the economy, creating jobs, getting this country back on track period should be the top priority.

I agree, DC really needs to take action.

One thing that I am becoming to realize is that America really is not a Democracy, it is a Republic...A Republic that is led by and in favor of massive corporations. It is obvious that if every American could vote on issues, there would NEVER be tax breaks for big corporations, and America would have more socialist programs. However, because the "common folk" have no say, which is anyone that makes less than ONE MILLION DOLLARS , America will continue to pass laws in favor of the wealthy.....The rich get richer, and the poorer get poorer.

Fun Fact: the average salary in America is 20k/year and the gap between the highest incomes and lowest incomes have been growing exponentially.
