The General Rules Empty The General Rules

Post  Admin Fri Jun 27, 2008 8:46 pm

These are the general rules to this forum:
  • Absolutely no spamming or advertising in your posts. This is a discussion board, not your television set.
  • Absolutely no flaming. In other words, be civil. You may and probably will disagree with someone completely. Deal with it.
  • Please be mature when posting. We all know you're a walking tank with a black belt and enough guns to arm a small nation. Nobody cares.
  • On the note of maturity, please keep language and profanity to a minimum. While you won't get banned for using language and profanity as that would be a violation of a little thing called "Freedom of Speech," you never know who might be on the site.
  • Try to make sense with an argument or statement.
  • If you have a complaint about something, come up with a solution to solve the problem. Otherwise, it's useless ranting. Unless of course it winds up being funny on an epic scale.
  • Any and all comments regarding someone's race, religion, sex, whatever will not be tolerated. Freedom of Speech and Expression aren't going to save you on this one. Violating this rule leads to an instant ban. This is your one and only warning.
  • Stay on topic when posting. In other words, if you are posting about education, don't put it in a topic labeled "immigration policy."
  • Points are rewarded for smart comments, accurate and useful information, clever arguments, and/or involvement in discussion. Points are lost for being an idiot and/or posting blatantly false information. Think before you type.
  • If you have a problem with anything regarding the site and/or how discussions are turning out, feel free to comment in the appropriate discussion boards. We will listen.
  • Have fun.

On Debates
Technically every post is a debate. Some, however, can be expanded well beyond the confines of the site. The first debate that took place over AIM has been posted recently in relation to when this post was posted. This is one way to have a debate outside the site. If you come up with a topic that can have many supporting arguments for both sides, feel free to place "Debate" in the title of the subject and go from there. Since files can be attached to posts, you can have the debate via webcam, video conference, recordings, whatever. The easiest, although messiest, way of doing it is to gather a few friends or enemies and enter into an AIM or MSN Messenger or whatever you all use chat room, then when it's done copy/paste it into a post. It takes a little while to neaten it up, but it allows for some great arguments. So post regularly and debate on and off the site. Have fun.

On Disclaimers
Just a quick note to anyone new to the site. You don't have to put disclaimers in your post about not being political or knowing about politics and whatnot. The general purpose of this site is to put your opinion out there, hear other opinions, learn, and debate.
Remember: it's not bad to be proven wrong, but rather great as you have achieved a new level of understanding.
Also, opinions are not facts unless specifically stated and backed by evidence that agrees with multiple sources.
So remember, get your voice out there!

Thanks, and enjoy
Matt (Church1ll) and Aaron (Gustavus_Adolfus)
